Im hoping McTavish pulls some kind of blockbuster trade to secure 2 defenseman who actually can contribute and mold the defense to play their positions.

The only thing I can see happening is some kind of trade for a goalie and hope they get some kind of defense coach who knows positioning.

For what Schultz makes, he needs to do better for sure. EDM has picks that could flipped to fill some holes. The question is does he sit back or make a deal that would help the teams chances of making the postseason? One would think he would be active at the draft (or should be).

I totally agree. Although Hanifin is a great player and defence is something the Oilers need, I think that Strome or Marner would make an impact on the team earlier. Look at Nurse and his development path......we need defencemen now not 3 years from now. Marner and Strome I think would likely take less time to develop. Personally I hope they pick Strome.

Mac T says stuff that we all think at some point but would never ever in a millions years publically say.

Sure Klefbom has tons of potential but the guy played terrible his last 25 games or so. He started slow, got really good in a sheltered situation, and then fell flat on his face as they increased his ice time/competition.

I couldn't tell which one of Schultz or Klefbom made the tape to tape pass to the opponent in the defensive zone that turned into a goal against until after the play because they were both doing that so regularly. Terrible reads, bad pinches, positioning, and just not skating hard enough. I started raging on Schultz for not skating hard after his man before realizing it was actually Klefbom... Just giving up on coverage.

Schultz Klefbom are a BOTTOM pairing on a playoff team at best. Barring a brief stint where they looked like a capable middle pairing I don't know how any decent hockey mind could say otherwise.

And that's our top pairing going into next year. Talk about suicidal intentions.

(frank) no! All he's doing is absolving himself of any responsibility when we tank again next season. Chiarelli was fired today and has a much more successful track record than MacT. He's also not afraid to pull the trigger on a blockbuster franchise changing trade. Nicholson has worked with him in the past. I think he would fit in well here.

It was depressing for me as a Fan to hear him utter such nonsense. He's acting like a whipped puppy, having dispatched his bold move speak to the trash heap.

After the way this Team failed to perform, a smart GM would not guarantee that his "core" is immune from trade, keep all of his options open and pull the trigger on deals of players/picks to improve the Team this summer.

While that's neccesarily true. We could really use another blue chip like Nurse. Those two on our top pairing in two-three years time will be a REAL big improvement. If we resign Roy and keep Gordon around or filter in FA's or young'n's in the bottom six centers, that allows Nuge and Drai to grow into the 1-2 punch we need. I think Hanafin is the right choice.

This team just sucks , so does the organization .. it continues to spin its wheels with poor decisions time and time again. What organization fires its coach and then hires them as a GM ? They draft small sissy ass players . Yakingoff is brutal and his facial expressions make him look like he is stunned all the time. And Ben Sivens in net ?... They screwed the City of Edmonton for a free new arena with Troll faced Katz. Don't get me started with that piece of S*it Lowe. Joke is best way to describe it and it wont matter who they draft because he will be a bust anyways ... they will go off the board and draft another ex oiler son. And please tell Katz to tell his Ronald McDonald looking fat kid to skip the buffet and the NHL Draft.
